Job DescriptionThe Department of Chemistry at Tennessee State University, a public Historically Black College and University (HBCU) located in Nashville, Tennessee, seeks applicants for a 9 month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor to begin August 2026. Special consideration will be given to candidates with expertise in Organic Chemistry or Biochemistry. Candidates must demonstrate the potential for excellence in engaging students through teaching and undergraduate mentoring. Faculty members typically teach twelve credit hours per semester. In addition, candidates must demonstrate a record of, or potential for, developing a program of high-quality scholarly activity and service. We seek applicants with evidence of potential for excellence in teaching at the university level, outstanding research potential, and a commitment to department service.
The successful candidate must:
-Demonstrate oral proficiency in the English language.
-Demonstrate excellence in teaching at the university level.
-Have excellent oral and written communication skills.
-Have proficiency in the use of technology and the online environment.
-Contribute to academic program development.
-Write grant proposals and secure funds from federal, state and/or private agencies.
-Conduct high quality research in Chemistry and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
-Make presentations at professional conferences.
-Involve undergraduate students in research activities.
-Assist students with placement in summer research internships.
-Assist students with admissions to graduate or professional schools.
-Assist students with employment opportunities and placement.
-Recruit undergraduate students.
-Perform other duties assigned by the department/college.
-Serve on various departmental and university-wide committees.
-Advise students.
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in Chemistry or a related area with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Chemistry.
