Job Summary
This is a training position designed to provide advanced scientific and professional development through active participation in research. The postdoctoral fellow will be involved in experimental design, data collection, analysis, and documentation, all conducted in accordance with established protocols and ethical guidelines. Additional responsibilities include developing and optimizing research techniques, contributing to manuscript preparation, and presenting findings at scientific meetings. The role requires performing a wide range of complex laboratory procedures, including chemical, biological, cytological, histological, surgical, and computational techniques, to support the laboratory's research objectives.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
PROJECT PLANNING: Participate in project planning and the development of research protocols, ensuring adherence to sound scientific principles and compliance with all applicable federal regulations and institutional guidelines.
ANALYZE: Analyze experimental results using manual and computational methods, developing custom data analysis tools as needed. Provide instruction and actively participate in advanced laboratory techniques, including bacteriological, chemical, and radiochemical analyses (qualitative and quantitative), as well as serological, histological, and cell culture procedures at both macro and micro scales.
SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE: Coordinate and participate in reviewing scientific literature, summarizing and critically evaluating relevant findings. Contribute to the development of new applications or adaptations of techniques based on the results of ongoing research or methods reported in other studies. Present research findings at local, national, and international scientific meetings.
MANUSCRIPTS: Prepare and submit manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and review or provide feedback on manuscripts prepared by other researchers.
ACTIVITIES: Supervise and coordinate the activities of students, graduate assistants, and other research personnel involved in laboratory and research projects. Provide guidance and technical expertise to principal investigators, postdoctoral fellows, students, and research staff on experimental techniques, procedures, and other methodological aspects of ongoing research activities.
LABORATORY MAINTENANCE: Calibrate, operate, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs on microscopes, computer-linked analytical instruments, dedicated computers, and other complex scientific equipment. Provide training and instruction to other laboratory personnel on the proper use and maintenance of these instruments.
OTHER DUTIES:
Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
A Ph.D. or an equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field.
Preferred Qualifications
Possess a D.D.S. or M.D. degree from an accredited college or university in addition to a Ph.D.
Have experience in cell culture and animal experiments.
Have knowledge in dentistry; clinical experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and EndNote, or willingness to learn these programs.
Experience or willingness to learn and perform a wide range of laboratory techniques, including cell culture, molecular and biochemical assays, animal experimental procedures, and data analysis.
SKILLS
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to new methods and technologies.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
Proven ability to complete assignments and meet deadlines.
Willingness and ability to work with research animals in compliance with institutional and regulatory guidelines.
Ability to analyze and interpret experimental data and maintain accurate research records.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)
Salary to be commensurate with the qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum midpoint) of the position.
