The Home Care Occupational Therapist evaluates and treats patients with physical, emotional, cognitive, and psychosocial deficits that impact their ability to safely and independently perform daily living activities. This role works closely within an interdisciplinary home care team that includes physical therapists, home health aides, and speech pathologists to coordinate comprehensive patient care and support positive outcomes. Caregivers benefit from a collaborative environment with dedicated support resources available throughout the day to assist with patient needs and care coordination.
This is a PRN role. A caregiver in this role will work 48 hours in a 6-week period including help for weekends.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Perform initial and ongoing assessments of patient’s condition.
- Establish, revise, and evaluate a plan of care which is appropriate to problems identified and involves the patient/family according to their capabilities and desires.
- Perform therapy interventions utilizing standard occupational therapy techniques and skills as appropriate for the age and condition of the patient.
- Supervise activities of occupational therapist assistants, students, and other support personnel.
- Always maintain complete and up-to-date documentation and files regarding patient condition and effectiveness and timeliness of care and interventions.
- Participate in ongoing interdisciplinary assessment of assigned patients. Participates as a member of the hospice interdisciplinary team when necessary.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Must be a graduate of an Occupational Therapy Program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association
- Current State Licensure as an Occupational Therapist (OT)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
- Valid Ohio Driver’s license upon hire; per policy 8-175 thereafter
- Proof of automobile insurance coverage with $100,000/$300,000 coverage, upon hire; per policy 8-175 thereafter
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Experience in clinical area
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk without assistive device and to maintain balance despite sudden load to support patient from falling.
- Ability to meet physical demands characterized at the heavy level defined by 1993 Leonard Matheson and Ministry of Labor.
- Ability to lift and reach with arms sufficiently to lift patient's arm and leg during therapeutic treatment program.
- Sensation of touch and manual dexterity to be able to palpate muscle tension or to monitor patient pulse.
- Visual acuity to observe patient's gross and fine motor movements to analyze these movements and to read all patient monitors.
- Ability to speak clearly enough to instruct patients and families.
- Ability to hear at a conversational level to understand patient's description of symptoms and response to treatment.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range
Minimum Annual Salary: $69,600.00
Maximum Annual Salary: $106,132.50
