Job Description

The High Energy Physics Division at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) invites applications for aPostdoctoral Research Associateposition to join our team working on theATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).

The successful candidate will contribute to a broad research program that includesphysics analysis, detector performance studies, experiment operations, and upgrade activities. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a collaborative group with deep expertise insilicon detectors, Trigger/DAQ (TDAQ) systems, software, and computing.

The Argonne ATLAS group plays a leading role indetector operationsand in major upgrade efforts, including theITk Pixel detectorandTDAQ systems. The group is also actively advancing work inhigh-performance computing (HPC)andmachine learning (ML)to address future physics and detector challenges. Current physics interests includeStandard Model measurementsandsearches for new phenomena.

Position Requirements

  • Recent or soon-to-be-completed PhD (within the last 0-5 years) in field of experimental particle physics or a closely related field

  • Experience inexperimental high-energy physics

  • Demonstrated ability to contribute tophysics analysis, detector performance studies, detector operations, and/or upgrade activities

  • Strong skills inscientific programming, software development, and data analysis

  • Ability to work effectively in acollaborative, multidisciplinary research environment

  • Strongwritten and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with theATLAS experimentor anothercollider-based high-energy physics experiment

  • Experience withsilicon detectors,Trigger/DAQ systems, ordetector operations

  • Experience insoftware and computing, including distributed computing,high-performance computing (HPC), ormachine learning (ML)

  • Interest inStandard Model measurementsand/orsearches for new phenomena

The expected hiring range for this position is $72,879.00-$121,465.00.
