The Assistant Program Director is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the CRNA program in the absence of the Assistant Dean and Program Director.

The Assistant Program Director for the CRNA Program supports the student success of the OUHC CON CRNA program across the student life cycle. The assistant program director is a key member in day-to-day operations, promoting a student success model for the OU CON student experience, participating in accreditation processes, providing leadership in the development, implementation and assessment of academic programs and the College and University strategic plans. 

Appointment:

• The Assistant Director reports to the Assistant Dean and Program Director for the CRNA program.
• This position carries approximately 40% administrative release time; release time is negotiated annually with the Dean based on the demands of the role and needs of the OU CON.

 Responsibilities:

• Teaching/Learning: Collaborate in the implementation of the OU CON CRNA curricula, ensuring rapid and convenient access to nursing education, electronically or face-to-face. Implement academic and educational policies in collaboration with the Office for Academic Affairs and the Office for Student Affairs.
• Student Support: Collaborate in the orientation of Student Affairs staff to ensure delivery of advising, tutoring, and special student initiatives within the CRNA program. Cooperate with Department Chairs, Academic Affairs, and Student Affairs to ensure an excellent student experience that prepares graduates to succeed in meeting their life and career goals, consistent with student experience.
• Operations: Collaborate with CRNA Program Director as well as other Program Directors, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Department Chairs, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and the Dean to support strategic planning, and information management for the CRNA program; and maintain contracts with outside health care or educational agencies as necessary to ensure appropriate clinical teaching. Monitor nursing education and nursing workforce trends that will impact CON CRNA Program and make recommendations to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, and Dean.
• University and Campus Relations: Represent faculty and students at college, campus, or University levels related to CRNA Program.
• Community Relations: Serve as a liaison between OU College of Nursing and CRNA community of interest including CRNAs, anesthesiologists, clinical agencies, and professional groups to promote interests of the OU College of Nursing for mutual benefit. Cooperate in the development and implementation of College of Nursing education, research, and practice marketing plans to enhance the on-campus and off-campus visibility of OU Nursing. Facilitate alumni relations in concert with the OU CON Office for External and Alumni Affairs.

Licensure: Eligible for or hold a current registered nurse license and an APRN license in the State of Oklahoma.  Unlicensed faculty may not teach undergraduate and graduate clinical nursing courses.

Education: Graduate degree in Nursing and Doctoral degree in Nursing, Health, Science, or Social Science Related Field  is  required. Faculty teaching in the PhD Program must meet the HSC Graduate College faculty appointment guidelines for Associate Member or Full Member Appointment at level 3 or 4 authority.

Minimal Experience:

• Faculty teaching in the nurse anesthesia advanced practice programs must hold appropriate specialty certification
• Have a minimum of three  years of clinical advanced practice registered nurse experience in the specialty.

Preferred Experience:

• 5 years' experience practicing as a CRNA
•  Academic  experience in curriculum, evaluation, and assessment
• 2 years’ teaching in  a CRNA program
• 2 years’ experience in a faculty leadership position in a CRNA program
• A record of scholarship and extramural funding

• Demonstrated ability to be engaging and persuasive with strong teamwork skills, politically astute, diplomatic, and able to manage by influence.
• Flexible and capable of responding to multiple demands in a time-sensitive manner
• Ability to exercise astute judgment in all matters related to academic affairs
