Job Description
Summary
Chair of MCB Dr. Peggy Goodell whose lab focuses on the basic mechanisms that regulate hematopoietic stem cells, and how their misregulation leads to leukemia development. Stem cells reside in the bone marrow in a quiescent state, but rapidly become activated to regenerate the hematopoietic system.
This position will plan the day to day operations of the lab which includes: lab administrative functions, technical research activities and lab personnel management for Dr. Goodell's research lab consisting of assistant professors, postdocs, graduate students, bioinformaticians, research techs and undergrads.
Job Duties
- Plans, directs and conducts specialized and advanced research experiments.
- Evaluates and analyzes data.
- May establish new research protocols and procedures.
- Summarizes research findings and publish results in research journals.
- May be responsible for laboratory operations.
- Assists investigators in planning and design of experiment

- Perform other job related duties as assigned.
- Assists investigators in planning and design of experiment
- Manages all aspects of planning lab experiments to ensure the required lab space and lab resources are available to use as well as coordinating personnel for lab experiments
- Oversee technical support research staff which involves, planning and assigning experiments, review their work to be sure lab protocols are being followed
- Ensures lab personnel is updated on polices involving IACUC, AAALAC, CCM
- Processing Shopping cart for lab supply ordering. This requires interactions with vendors, obtain quotes and cost-effective products for the lab, following up to be certain grants are charged correctly and lab equipment is kept up to date concerning service contracts and cost
- Performs and trains personnel on Next-Generation Sequencing experiments such as RNAseq, and Chipseq and sequencing of libraries
- Test protocols and documents experiments that are reported to senior supervisors
- Performs research experiments which are then troubleshooted and evaluated
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
- Three years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Mouse handling experience is a must.
- Knowledge of IACUC is required.
