Physical Therapist - Clinical Specialist Full Time Outpatient – Willoughby Hills The Cleveland Clinic Rehab and Sports Therapy Department has an opportunity for a PT Clinical Specialist Clinical Specialist to join our team at our Willoughby Hills Family Health Center. Flexibility in schedules to assist in evening coverage until 7:00 PM twice per week is required. Prior orthopedic/sports medicine experience plus previous clinical instructor experience for PT/PTA student required. Location: Willoughby Hills Rehab and Sports Therapy: 29017 Chardon Road Erie Center Building, Willoughby Hills, OH 44092 Performs a complete evaluation, develops a plan of care, and provides treatment for patients in accordance with quality standards of the department. Assumes clinical management responsibilities, as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Orients new staff to procedures in area.
  • Provides 1 or more in-services per year to educate staff on new techniques and developments in specialty area.
  • Attends continuing education programs outside the department to maintain state-of-the-art knowledge of Physical Therapy skills and current activity in the profession.
  • Directs and supervises patient care delivered by physical therapist assistants and unlicensed personnel, while retaining direct responsibility for patient care.
  • Participates as a clinical instructor for student physical therapists and/or physical therapist assistants.
  • Provides supervision of students as assigned.
  • Prepares written evaluations of student's performance for the Physical Therapist/Assistant School with which the student is affiliated.
  • Participates as a clinical instructor annually.
  • Participates in outreach programs provided by Sports Medicine Section.
  • Participates in athletic event coverage for outreach program.
  • Attends/participates in CCF sponsored continuing educational programs.
  • Delivers case presentations at department sponsored programs.
  • Participates in the development of new treatment and educational programs in specialty area.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy.
  • Minimum of 75 contact hours of continuing education in Orthopaedic and/or Sports Medicine topics.

Certifications:

  • Licensed in the Current State as a Physical Therapist (PT).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of four (4) years experience as a Physical Therapist, with three (3) years in Orthopaedic and/or Sports Medicine specialty.
  • Minimum of 12 weeks as a full-time clinical instructor for a physical therapist/physical therapist assistant student.
  • One outside presentation within the last 2 years (study groups, professional organizations, college.).
  • Physical Therapy specialty certification preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk and maintain balance despite sudden load, in order to support patient from falling during gait training.
  • Ability to lift and reach with arms sufficiently to lift patient's arm or leg during exercise program.
  • Sensation of touch and manual dexterity to be able to palpate muscle tension or monitor patient's pulse.
  • Visual acuity to observe patient's gross movement, gait, etc. in order to analyze bio-mechanical problems.
  • Ability to speak clearly enough to instruct patients and families who may not be able to read.
  • Ability to hear or understand patient's description of symptoms and response to treatment.
