Job Description

The department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) is seeking to hire a licensed, neurologically-trained physical therapist to serve as a research therapist. Duties include screening and evaluating potential participants and providing interventions according to research protocols in addition to supervising research Physical Therapist Assistants. The candidate will also contribute to all phases of clinical research including regulatory, recruitment and data management duties. Scholarly activities including scientific writing and contributing to research dissemination are also expected, in addition to facilitating research growth within PM&R by supporting staff with tasks associated with research project development.

Responsibilities:

  • Screening and evaluating potential research study participants and providing interventions according to research protocols.
  • Regulatory, recruitment and data management of research studies.
  • Supervision of research Physical Therapist Assistants.
  • Facilitating research growth, including but not limited to scientific writing and research dissemination.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree. Graduate of an approved school of physical therapy.

Certifications:

  • Current State license as Physical Therapist (PT)  
  • Current certification for Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association

Complexity of Work:

  • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment.

Work Experience:

  • 1 years of experience preferred.
  • Prior neuro experience highly preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk and climb stairs without assistive device and to maintain balance despite sudden load in order to support patient from falling.
  • Ability to meet physical demands characterized at the heavy level defined by 1993 Leonard Matheson and Ministry of Labor.
  • Ability to lift and reach with arms sufficiently to lift patient's arm and leg during therapeutic treatment program.
  • Sensation of touch and manual dexterity to be able to palpate muscle tension or to monitor patient pulse.
  • Visual acuity to observe patient's gross and fine motor movements in order to analyze these movements and to read all patient monitors.
  • Ability to speak clearly enough to instruct patients and families.
  • Ability to hear at a conversational level to understand patient's description of symptoms and response to treatment.
